Installation Guide
Installation of packaged Skins is very simple, as long as you have a basic understanding of zip files. Simply extract (unzip) the downloaded package to a folder in the UserInterface directory in your UO Enhanced Client directory. You can name the folder anything you wish, but it is recommended that you keep the name the same as the package you downloaded for easy reference. The name of the folder will be what is shown to you when selecting a Custom UI within UO.
One common mistake people make is to create an extra folder when extracting the files. For example, one might download "Copper Enhanced", and end up with "UserInterface/Copper Enhanced/Copper Enhanced/{package files here}". If this happens, most packages will not work. Instead, you want "UserInterface/Copper Enhanced/{package files here}".
Walkthrough of Download and Installation of an Example Package
For this example, we assume that Ultima Online is installed to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Ultima Online Stygian Abyss
- Go to http://downloads.uo.modders-exchange.net/
- Type "Example" (without the quotes) in the search box
- Typing into the search box will immediately filter packages so only ones with names that contain your search remain
- If more than one package matches your search, they are sorted by release date
- Click the Download button for the only package that remains visible
- Extract the zip to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Ultima Online Stygian Abyss\UserInterface\Example
- (Optional) Delete the zip you downloaded
- It doesn't really hurt to keep it, but you don't need it anymore
- Start up the Enhanced Client
- Click the Custom UI button at the top of the screen
- Select "Example" from the list
- Log in with the character of your choice
- Look in your Chat Log for messages that indicate that you have successfully installed the Example Package
- There will be no messages for most packages - the messages are there only to help you learn how to install other packages
- If you don't see the messages, make sure you extracted the files to the right location
- In some situations, you might see messages that indicate your installation was incorrect, with details to fix it
- If you're still having problems, send an e-mail to Illandril or post a message on the UO Stratics Enhanced Client Forum
- (Optional) Delete the Example package, as it doesn't actually do anything except display those messages
- This uninstalls the package, so don't do this step for any packages you want to keep
- Go download a package that interests you, and install that one (but change "Example" to the name of that package to the one you want)
